PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Assistant Director of School Nutrition is done for the purpose/s of planning, implementing, directing and maintaining the district’s nutritional services; ensuring that departmental work goals are met; complying with state and federal program mandates and health requirements; ensuring optimal utilization of personnel and other resources; providing management support to the Director of the School Nutrition Program which provides nutritionally prepared meal service for the students and employees of MCSD.

    

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Educational Level:                      

Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.

2. Certification/License:                  

School Nutrition Directors Certification preferred

3. Experience:                                

Job related experience within a specialized field is required.

4. Physical Activities:                      

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Written and oral communication; Knowledge of Nutrition, Food Safety and Sanitation, Financial Management, Meal Production, Design of Kitchen Facilities, and Employee Qualifications.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

2.

Assists in planning in-service and professional development training for employees for the purpose of ensuring an exceptional food service program.

3.

Assists in managing a wide variety of programs to ensure district compliance with state, federal and/or county regulations.

4.

Assists in the administration, promotion, and development of the School Lunch and Breakfast programs for complying with federal, state and local policies.

5.

Evaluates and determines the effectiveness of individual food service units to ensure district resources are effectively utilized.

6.

Maintains documents, files, records for the purpose of providing up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.

7.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

8.

Plans and analyzes the system/s breakfast and lunch menus ensuring quality and quantity of the food service program.

9.

Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, accounting processes, distribution formulas, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.

10.

Provides resource materials and information to teachers, administrators, and school nutrition staff for the purpose of enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.

11.

Provides professional consultation and assistance to cafeteria managers and principals to ensure an exceptional food service program.

12.

Researches new products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of recommending purchases, contracts and maintaining district wide services.

13.

Supervises assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring their department and individual performance objectives are met.

14.

Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
