PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Assists in the instructional program, using ESOL strategies, which enables students to communicate, appreciate cultural diversity, and acquire necessary academic skills and concepts.

 

REQUIREMENTS:  
1. Educational Level:                       Bachelor Degree in job related field
2. Certification/License:                   Valid Georgia Teacher certification or eligibility for GA certification in Early Childhood Education and/or Middle Grades English Language Arts and ESOL or ESOL Endorsement; Valid Driver's license
3. Experience:                                 None
4. Physical Activities:                       Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:            Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management; Spanish a plus

                                             

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  2. Administers tests and language assessments to evaluate students' language ability.
  3. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress, student's achievements, methods for improvement, and reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  4. Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  5. Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources to improve the overall quality of student outcomes.
  6. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  7. Instructs English Language Learner students to improve their success in academics and skills.
  8. Communicates with parents in all aspects of their child's English Language Services.
  9. Completes designated procedures for students referred for ESOL service.
  10. Compiles, maintains, and submits all required records.
  11. Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  12. Models English communication to develop student ability to communicate effectively in the English language.
  13. Provides class and small group instruction to present grade and content appropriate curriculum.
  14. Reports incidents such as fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc. to maintain personal safety of students and provide a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code and school policies.
