Executive Director, Program for Exceptional Students

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides services to students eligible for related services;

Improves, develops, restores or maintains a child’s motor function in educational environments, Functions as “related service personnel” under state and federal law regulations

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:                

Degree in Physical Therapy form an accredited program

2. Certification/License:            

Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the State of Georgia; Valid GA Driver's License

3. Experience:                           

Prefer one year clinical experience in physical/occupational therapy including pediatrics

4. Physical Activities:                  

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: 

  • Identification of physical impairments/delays
  • Treatment planning specific to pediatrics
  • Interventions such as -facilitation of developmental motor skills
    • Postural awareness, ambulation and gait training
    • Cardiovascular function
    • Wheelchair mobility
    • Adaptation or modification of equipment
    • Environmental assessment
    • Recommendation and monitoring of orthoses and assistive devices
    • Prevention of initial or additional deformity or disability
    • Transportation needs of students

 Written and oral communication, planning, organization

                                             

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Conduct appropriate evaluation of students referred for related services under IDEA and prepare written reports of findings
  2. Participate in meetings as a member of the multidisciplinary team
  3. Participate in the development of IEP or 504 plans for eligible students
  4. Provide direct and indirect physical therapy in education settings
  5. Collaborate with other personnel regarding physical therapy and the students’ needs
  6. Delegate activities to teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals
  7. Train/instruct teachers, parents and paraprofessionals in delegated techniques and equipment use
  8. Travel to and among schools to provide services
  9. Maintain records of service provided
  10. Lift, transfer, and position children and equipment as necessary
  11. Supervise PTA as needed
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
