PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Teacher, Mass Media was established for the purpose of teaching skills needed in the field of audio and video technology, broadcast, electronic communication, cinema, and digital media production to students; facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and by implementing state and district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.    

         

REQUIREMENTS:

APPLICANT MUST HOLD A MINIMUM OF AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE OR HIGHER FROM A GA PSC-ACCEPTED ACCREDITED INSTITUTION, HAVE AT LEAST 2 YEARS OF OCCUPATIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD AND MEET ONE OF THE CERTIFICATION PATHS:

1. Certification Path 1:

Hold a GA Level 4 or higher professional teaching certificate. Required to fulfill other State and District requirements to renew the certificate within the first 3 years of employment.

PATH 2:               

Hold a professional teaching certificate in another state in audio and video technology, broadcast, electronic communication, cinema, and/or digital media production 

PATH 3:

If you do not have a professional teaching certificate in any state:

Hold an associate’s degree or higher from a GaPSC accepted institution in audio and video technology, broadcast, electronic communication, cinema, and digital media production   or a GaPSC determined equivalent; and have at least 2 years of occupational work experience in the field. Required to fulfill other State and District requirements to renew the certificate within the first 3 years of employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  1. Instructs students through effective differentiated teaching methods to ensure comprehension and mastery of content.
  2. Prepares engaging and challenging lessons.
  3. Attends faculty meetings and professional learning sessions 
  4. Maintains and operates an active Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
  5. Administers and/or supports the State and local standardized testing processes and policies.
  6. Administers various types of assessments to monitor student’s comprehension of content.
  7. Enhances course content in the form of remediation, modification and enrichment.
  8. Works collaboratively with Middle/High School teachers to vertical-align curriculum and best practices, where applicable.
  9. Effectively manages the learning environment so that it is conducive to learning.
  10. Maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazards, ridicule, and prejudice.
  11. Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other district facilities.
  12. Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues.
  13. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by principal immediate supervisor and district-level administration.


Additional Duties

  1. Attends school and District-level professional learning activities as directed
  2. Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent
  3. Seeks and maintains professional learning opportunities through State endorsed professional organizations. 
  4. Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written communications
  5. Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction
  6. Avoids behaviors that detract from staff morale
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
