PRIMARY FUNCTION: Develops students' physical skills and abilities by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing students' leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

 

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:                      

Bachelor Degree in job related field

2. Certification/License:                  

Valid Georgia Teacher certification or eligibility for GA certification in Physical Education

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management

                                                                                       

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress.
  2. Assembles and maintains equipment such as volleyball, soccer, badminton, etc.
  3. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student, to the extent feasible; teaches physical education classes for exceptional students.
  4. Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, contribution in sports competition, and social skills; communicates with parents and school staff on students' progress; identifies students' needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  5. Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, attends PTA meetings and assemblies; supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day; conducts an annual field day event.
  6. Selects and requisitions supplies, equipment, and instructional aids in concert with county guidelines, and maintains accurate inventory records.
  7. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  8. Evaluates student progress in terms of the objectives of the course and grade taught.
  9. Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures.
  10. Meets certification and accreditation standards.
  11. Meets expectations according to the regular elementary teacher job description.
  12. Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
