This posting is to recruit for existing vacancies and/or positions that become available at our various schools.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interprets the speech and language of the classroom into sign language and/or oral lip reading for the students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:                      

Bachelor Degree in job related field

2. Certification/License:                  

Current national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or current Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) level 3.5 or higher.

3. Experience:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:        

Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management

                                             

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Assists deaf and hard of hearing students in academic and nonacademic activities, individually or in groups as well as deaf or hard of hearing staff and parents for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
  3. Implements, under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional/behavioral programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the teacher in improving students' academic and life skill success through a defined course of study.
  4. Interprets at various meetings as may be requested (e.g. IEP, teacher/parent conference, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating effective communication.
  5. Interprets or transliterates all language necessary for student's education for the purpose of facilitating effective communication.
  6. Monitors individual students for the purpose of providing assistance as needed and ensuring a quiet, safe, and positive learning environment.
  7. Participates in meetings for the purpose of receiving and conveying information related to serving the general goals of education to the deaf or hard of hearing.
  8. Prepares for daily classroom lectures and activities for the purpose of ensuring a clear understanding and interpretation.
  9. Provides support to the deaf or hard of hearing student for the purpose of facilitating communication and/or reinforcing classroom objectives.
  10. Tutors deaf or hard of hearing students in a variety of subjects for the purpose of supplementing daily classroom learning and promoting student success.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
