PRIMARY FUNCTION: Developing students' academic skills through academic courses of study and implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Georgia Teacher certification or eligibility for GA certification in Agriculture

The Agriscience teacher is responsible for teaching approved state standards in agriculture to students in grades 6 – 12 grade.  It is the responsibility of the teacher to work with the local agriculture teachers, administrators, and community leaders to organize and conduct an instructional program that will use strategies for integrating academics with career and technical focus and techniques. The current focus of the program is Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Science, Leadership and General Agriculture Concepts. The instructor will provide information to students regarding career pathways as a guide to achieving necessary skills for education and/or employment beyond high school. This includes providing students with educational and experiential learning experience leading to college and career preparation, enhance youth leadership and FFA as an integral part of instruction. 

 

In addition, the Agriculture Teacher will serve as a co-advisor for the High School FFA chapter and advisor of the Middle School FFA Chapter. They will work with agriculture professionals and post-secondary partners to maximize opportunities for student learning both within and outside the classroom and plan and conduct an organized program of instruction and/or community involvement with adults. Most of this instruction will be provided after school, at night, and during the summer. Lastly, the Agriculture Teacher will assume a responsible role in public and professional relations by actively participating in civic, professional, agricultural, and other community organizations.
