PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of LEA facilitator was designed for the purpose of addressing the duties and responsibilities that a large special education population creates within a school or group of schools. The role of the LEA facilitator is to be an educational leader and advocate for students with disabilities within the school setting. He/she will actively support the assigned school(s) to ensure that a strong commitment to improving academic and social achievement of students with disabilities is evident. The LEA facilitator collaborates with appropriate individuals so that the educational needs of students with disabilities are appropriately addressed and in compliance with district/division procedures as well as applicable federal and state laws.

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:                      

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution is required.

2. Certification/License:                  

Georgia certification in Exceptional Student

Education; valid driver’s license.

3. Experience:                                

Three years of successful teaching experience in the area of Exceptional Student Education.

4. Physical Activities:                      

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

5. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:                

Excellent written and oral communication skills; Organizational skills, Basic Math

                                             

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  2. Coordinates school wide calendar and participates as needed in SST, 504 and IEP staffings and annual reviews and facilitates documentation for student records for the purpose of legal compliance.
  3. Creates and Coordinates School Behavior/discipline Notebook for the purpose of ensuring a safe learning environment.
  4. Acts as LEA for meetings as designated by the School Principal for the purpose of legal compliance.
  5. Participates in placement meetings of students for the purpose of determining appropriate instructional approach for students.
  6. Attends division and area PES meetings and trainings for the purpose of remaining knowledgeable with current regulations, policies, procedures, and district initiatives.
  7. Reviews transferring student IEPs and assigns student to incoming school if services are available or receive assignment from Program Manager for the purpose of ensuring consistent and effective implementation of system-wide instructional and student service programs.
  8. Facilitates communication regarding transportation requirements to each district Transportation Coordinator for the purpose of ensuring student safety and communicating effectively across the district.
  9. Compiles district and state forms including case loads, FTE, CPI, personnel, child count and summer school, etc. for the purpose of meeting budgetary, staffing, and all state and federal reporting guidelines.
  10. Reviews Student Information System for accuracy of data for all district, state and federal reporting for the purpose of legal compliance.
  11. Monitor, on a regularly scheduled basis, confidential folders and IEPs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance for the purpose of ensuring consistent and effective implementation of system-wide student service programs.
  12. Ensure that students with disabilities are receiving a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment for legal compliance.
  13. Assist IEP teams in the development and implementation of transition plans for the purpose of ensuring quality programs for exceptional education students.
  14. Effectively use, and assist building staff to use, the division’s electronic IEP system for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  15. Exhibit a strong commitment to improving academic and social achievement for students with disabilities by assisting in the development of comprehensive programs and services along the continuum for the purpose of increasing outcomes for students with disabilities.
  16. Assists teachers in long and short range planning and scheduling for the purpose of ensuring highly qualified staff are maintained.
  17. Effectively communicate division procedures and best practices to site administration and staff through regular staff meetings for the purpose of providing services within established guidelines and in compliance with related requirements.
  18. Assist division and area teams, administration, licensed, and support staff with the effective implementation of federal, state, and local mandates, policies, procedures and philosophy for the purpose of legal compliance.
  19. Assist staff with information on scientifically-based instruction, positive behavioral supports, and other effective classroom management techniques for the purpose of ensuring highly qualified staff are maintained.
  20. Collects, submits and monitors behavioral and attendance data for SST, 504 and SWD for the purpose of legal compliance.
  21. Observes specific students/classrooms and makes recommendations by supporting, mentoring and modeling best practice instructional strategies and techniques for the purpose of engaging students and assisting teachers meet a wide variety of learning styles and adaptive needs.
  22. Researches, plans and coordinates in-service training programs for administrators, parents, regular teachers, special education teachers, etc. in understanding special education students for the purpose of improving compliance, understanding, and implementation of programs.
  23. Advises parents, regular and special education teachers in proper programming of students for the purpose of improving compliance, understanding, and implementation of programs.
  24. Assist parents in problem solving and acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to support the development and implementation of their child’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for the purpose of improving compliance, understanding, and implementation of programs.
  25. Provides on-going communication with district and cooperative personnel as well as with parents for the purpose of ensuring the quality programs for exceptional education students.
  26. Informs the Program Manager of teacher and other personnel effectiveness, and program development for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
  27. Maintain confidentiality and organization of records through observable procedures consistent with division and site directives for the purpose of legal compliance.
  28. Work professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and community for the purpose of ensuring quality programs for exceptional education students.
  29. Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
