Primary Function: The job of Executive Director of Programs for Exceptional Students is done for the purpose(s) of providing leadership in developing, implementing and evaluating a full continuum of educational services for students with disabilities in MCSD; providing information and serving as a resource to others; and serving as a member of the leadership team.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:

Masters degree in job-related area

2. Experience:

Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

3. Physical Activities:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

4. Equivalency:

10 or more years of successful teaching/administration experience.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Assists in the development of proposals for state and federal funding for programs for disabled students for the purpose of accommodating future growth in student enrollment.

2.

Assists with collection and monitoring of data for the purpose of developing and/or evaluating programs and/or complying with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.

3.

Attends staff meetings with the Student Services Directors and Chief Student Services Officer for the purpose of providing and receiving information that will enhance the productivity of the department.

4.

Confers with parents/legal guardians, principals, psychologists and teachers regarding a variety of needs and issues related to their child for the purpose of ensuring proper placement of students with disabilities.

5.

Confers with the State Department when necessary on matters regarding the program for the purpose of ensuring that all state and federal regulations are followed in carrying out services for disabled students.

6.

Coordinates all activities relating to the assignment of students for the purpose of ensuring district objectives are achieved and resources are effectively utilized.

7.

Develops annual budget and goals to be submitted to the Chief Student Services Officer for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.

8.

Directs creation of Special Education handbooks for principals, teachers, and other interested personnel for the purpose of overseeing that services are in compliance with related requirements.

9.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. teaches professional development as required; facilitates training as needed for district and school based staff to address areas of concern or new practices, policies or guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.

10.

Plans with the Chief Student Services Officer for the purpose of providing future expansion of Special Education programs and services for the county.

11.

Supervises all personnel in the department (e.g. interviewing, evaluating, supervising, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.

12.

Works closely with parent groups, civic groups, etc. for the purpose of identifying and addressing needs of students with disabilities.

13.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Chief Student Services Officer or the Superintendent for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
