 Principal

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Paraprofessional, Autism is done for the purpose/s of assisting assigned teaching personnel in the supervision and instruction of autistic students; performing classroom clerical tasks; and assisting students by meeting special health care needs and developing students; daily living and behavioral skills.

 

This job posting is to recruit Paraprofessional applicants for current vacancies and/or vacancies that become available during the 2020-2021 school year.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

1. Educational Level:

Minimum 60 semester/100 quarter hours of eligible college hours OR passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment Test required.

(www.gace.ets.org)  If submitting GACE scores, you will also need to provide verification of completion of a HS diploma or GED

2. Certification/License:

Must maintain Georgia Paraprofessional Certificate which include in-service training related to position

3. Experience:

None

4. Physical Activities:

Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities; ability to lift a student up to a weight of 50 pounds without assistance; ability to perform a two person lift for students over 50 pounds.

5. Training:

Assignment will require successful certification in Protective Restraint Training

6. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Written and oral communication; instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; student management.

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

2.

Assists the classroom teacher in the preparation and implementation of instructional programs in accordance with lesson plans.

3.

Assists classroom teacher with the record keeping process and data collection.

4.

Participates in school functions, field trips and extracurricular activities as indicated under the direction of the teacher.

5.

Participates in on-going in-service training.

6.

Assists with hall duty and bus loading and unloading as directed.

7.

Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or administrator in providing records/materials.

8.

Implements positive behavior intervention strategies and emergency behavior interventions for students with autism providing a safe and positive learning environment.

9.

Intervenes in emergency situation involving aggressive or uncontrolled behavior of students providing a safe and positive learning environment

10.

Administers assistance to medically fragile children (e.g. tube feeding, toileting, diapering, food preparation, etc. and other delegated medical procedures) as required for assigned students.

11.

Assists with the movement of students from one area of the school to another or to a specialized position.

12.

Assists with instruction, positioning, and therapy as directed by related service personnel.

13.

Assists in maintaining a sanitary environment and handles body fluids following universal procedures.

14.

Assists in implementing community based instruction or community/campus based skills training without direct on-site supervision in accordance with State guidelines.

15.

Monitors the classroom during teacher’s participation in IEP meetings or other activities/planning which require the teacher to be out of the room.

16.

Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
